Porch Upgrade Project

When we looked at the house while it was on the market in 1999, the owners were in the process of building a deck with a hot tub. The hot tub was going to be placed at the bottom of the steps leading down. We didn't like the way it was turning out, so our purchase offer contained a clause for them to halt work on the project. Below is the "before" picture so that you can see what we were dealing with.

For the first few years we owned the house, we just ignored the deck completely. We didn't like it, but didn't have any plans for it. We eventually decided to convert the deck into a porch. The work started in 2003, then stopped for several years while other projects took priority.

In 2006, I started the process of re-roofing the house (see the Roof Project Page for details). In May of 2007, I decided it was time to finish what I had started. The existing roof on the house is pretty steep, so I figured a gently-pitched porch roof would give me a good staging area to work on this section of the roof.

While the project is not complete, below is a picture of where things currently (July, 2007) stand. If you click on the links above and to the right, you can follow along with my progress and find out how we got to this point.
