Attic Conversion Project Since the attic was wasted space, we decided to build two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Bathroom Rebuild Project See the destruction and rebuild HERE ! Windows, Siding and Shutters Project My specialty is interior carpentry, so we contracted with Variety Windows to install vinyl siding and replacement vinyl windows. The picture above was taken right after they finished the work. The work that they did was just fine, except that the sales contract specified that triangular gable vents would be installed. The workers installed regular rectangular vents, which now block off about 1/2 of the attic fan. Variety is not living up to their promise to rectify this, so I had to dispute a portion of the charge on my credit card. For full details, take a look at the letter I wrote to my credit card company. Here are a bunch of pictures of the (wrong) rectangular gable vents that are blocking my attic fan:
Note: Click on thumbnails for expanded images! After the credit card company reversed the final charge of $300, I never heard from Variety Windows again. I ended up removing the gable-end fan and installing a regular roof-mounted fan instead. Kitchen Rennovation We replaced the entire kitchen during the week we had off between Christmas and New Year's. The kitchen was stripped bare! This means the walls and ceiling were pulled down, and the nasty yellow floor was pulled up. A total of 5 separate electric circuits were run into the kitchen to replace the single circuit. We re-assembled it with all new cabinets from Home Depot and custom coutertops from Bingham Laminates in Gaithersburg, MD. I was under so much pressure to get this done during my vacation that I never even stopped to take pictures of the process! I was so happy to get back to my desk job the next week, as I really needed the rest!! Finishing Touches
Well, it took a lot longer than expected, but things are really starting to look good. The estimated
completion date is now May 21st. Just a few days ago, I got around to installing a new brass light
fixture on the house that was bought over 4 years ago. Definitely looks better than the double-floodlights
that were there before!
We just got done painting the living room and bedrooms. Here's a picture of the living room that
shows off the crown moulding and fireplace mantel.
These pictures are showing the 2 bedrooms that are located on the first floor of the house. If you look closely at the picture to the left, you can see the Ethernet network jack. The home is now ready to be shown, and we have started letting people tour the place. Here's the information people want to know!
